Benji graduated from Wayne State University with a BS in Sports and Fitness Administration. From there, Benji worked as a Community Programming Intern at the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission and as a Community Ambassador at MoGo Bike Share in Detroit. Benji currently acts as our chapter’s NMDP Representative helping us to plan NMDP outreach events, train our members, and involve our chapter with other NMDP initiatives in the Detroit area.

As a student programs specialist, Lauren is committed to fostering student programs’ connections with the surrounding community. Lauren met with the Community Service committee in August of 2026 to plan out longitudinal service projects with the HOPE Clinic and the Ronald McDonald House. She also trains students at the School of Public Health to be prepared to perform needs-assessments, data analysis, and outreach for local organizations.

Gabbi works closely with students and student organizations engaged in community-based initiatives in their local and global communities. Through trainings, consultations, and advising, she supports students in deepening their own learning, as well as the impact of their community engagement efforts, by centering their work on community-identified needs. Gabbi also advises The Detroit Partnership, a Ginsberg sponsored student organization that facilitates weekly service-learning opportunities in the city of Detroit.

Dr. Anita Shelgikar

Dr. Heard-Booth is an Associate Professor in the Division of Human Anatomy and serves as Anatomy Site Director of the College of Human Medicine’s Grand Rapids campus. She teaches gross anatomy and human prosection courses and works with the clinical simulation team to integrate anatomy instruction into simulated patient care experiences.
